The Second Annual Week Of Global Interfaith Dialogue
Posted: Monday July 19, 2004 3:50 PM EST

This year, during the week of September 12th-18th, Global Family for Love and Peace (GFLP) will organize the second annual Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue.  The Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue encourages individuals and organizations around the world to share the values common to all religions in dialogue, music, and art on one day during this week in their local community.

In support of the observance of the United Nations International Day of Peace, the Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue generates a critical mass of positive energy and focus, facilitating a greater understanding of our interconnectedness and of our responsibility for each other.  Last year interfaith programs were held at United Nations headquarters in New York, in South Africa, Iran, China (Hong Kong), the UK, Jordan (with the Interfaith Encounter Association of Israel, the Egyptian Interfaith Association and the Jordanian Interfaith Action), Jerusalem, Mozambique, Pakistan, and Taiwan.

This year, the Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue will expand to include many more communities around the world as we create, in the words of Dharma Master Hsin Tao, founder of GFLP and the featured presenter at the United Nations dialogue, “tolerance and friendship as the basis for future cooperation”.

In accordance with the philosophy of respect for all faiths, tolerance for all cultures, and love for all life, GFLP is dedicated to building a harmonious world through promoting spiritual education, organizing and directing activities for young people in the field of social service, and sponsoring interfaith dialogues.  GFLP, as a non-profit tax exempt organization, promotes these values through its commitment to:

• nonviolence and respect for life;
• solidarity and a just economic order;
• tolerance and a life of truthfulness; and
• equal rights and partnership between men and women.

GFLP was honored to be one of the primary sponsors of the 55th Annual DPI/NGO Conference held in at the United Nations in September 2002, and the Buddhist Muslim Dialogue Conference on Global Ethics and Good Governance held in May, 2003 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.  GFLP also is an Outreach Partner with “11 Days of Global Unity” sponsored by We The World (http://www.WeTheWorld.org).

For more information, or to establish a dialogue in your community, please contact Laurence Singer at 718 353-7398 () or visit http://www.gflp.org.
