According to the North American Mission Board, the Southern Baptist Convention is the third largest emergency relief group in the U.S., second only to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Accordingly, more than 2,000 Southern Baptist volunteers arrived on scene within a week of Charley’s outbreak, providing spiritual and physical healing to the thousands of victims. In order to make the most effective use of the numerous volunteers, the Florida Baptists became a “liaison” to connect the workers and the victims.
