LOS ANGELES, CA (ANS)—The Greater Los Angeles Billy Graham Crusade has announced a “Love In Action” plan in partnership with local churches to bring food and hope to the hungry throughout the entire Los Angeles region.

Area churches are partnering together to become involved in 3*Steps of Action, including God’s Love In Action Food Drive (bringing food to the City), Feasts of Faith (bringing the Crusade to the City) and a VIP Tailgate Party (bringing the City to the Crusade.)

“Everyday, as we go about our busy lives, individuals in need are often overlooked,” said Willie Jordan, President of the Fred Jordan Missions. “Now with the help of the Billy Graham Crusade, Los Angeles has the chance to make a difference for thousands of hurting and hungry people.”

According to the U.S. Census, an estimated 1.6 million men, women and children live below the poverty line in Los Angeles County alone. A new UCLA study found that hunger in Los Angeles County affects over 200,000, with another 560,000 at risk.

To demonstrate what churches can and should be doing on an ongoing basis to combat this growing problem, area congregations will first help feed hungry families in their community by collecting food boxes that will feed a family for at least two days. Then, through two rounds of “Feasts of Faith” in July and November, volunteers will serve dinner to those in need. Finally, individuals who attend the feasts will be invited to join Crusade volunteers for the VIP Tailgate Party at the Rose Bowl on November 20. Fun activities, music, games, and a cookout with IN-N-OUT© burgers are all planned for that afternoon for those in need who are coming to the evening Crusade meeting.

“Imagine the tents outside the Rose Bowl”, says Dr. Keith Phillips, President of World Impact, Inc., “as always reserved for the VIP’s for the event…this time filled with those who are very important to Jesus – the poor, the hungry, the forgotten. Isn’t it just like Jesus – the poor become rich, the last become first and the poor have the gospel preached to them.”

Anyone who wants to volunteer in this effort can do so by putting together a food box of non-perishable items, participating with one of the regional church partnerships hosting a “Feast of Faith” in July or November, or by working with an established organization to bring people in need to the VIP Party and Crusade on Saturday, November 20, 2004.
