Theme-park-type attraction will back Bible story, claim all creation was just six days in the making
![]() A Christian group in the US state of Kentucky is creating a US$25 million theme-park type tourist centre called The Creation Museum to promote the idea that God created the world in six, 24-hour days, just 6000 years ago. Founded by Answers in Genesis, an organization defending the literal interpretation of the Bible’s creation story, the museum offers displays and exhibits challenging the accepted scientific theory that Earth and its life forms evolved over billions of years. The 95 000-square-foot (8825 square metre) complex is being built on 50 acres (20 hectares) in Boone County, just south of Cincinnati. It will be the largest museum of its kind in the world and has attracted media coverage from around the globe, along with hefty financial support from Christian groups. The museum complex will include a restaurant, gift store and special effects theatre. The first phase of the museum is scheduled to open by the end of this year, but the whole complex is two years from its launch. The plans for the museum come as school boards and judicial courts in 20 US states are wrestling with proposals requiring schools to challenge the scientifically-accepted evolution theory. Mary Looy, vice president of outreach for Answers In Genesis, told Ecumenical News International the ministry is receiving more than $300 000 in donations each month. The museum already has been featured in newspapers from Japan to Canada and has been featured on a global broadcaster, the British-based BBC. “The worldwide exposure has been remarkable considering we are two years away from opening,” said Looy. “We would have had to pay millions for the kind of exposure we’re getting.” Answers in Genesis is an 11-year-old organization which hosts a popular Web site answering questions about creation. It broadcasts on 700 radio stations throughout the United States and publishes Creation Magazine. According to displays in the museum:
